Things to Know Before You Visit Paris

Paris is a glamorous city of love and glorified features. From its dazzling boulevards and bridges, to its famous Eiffel Tower (known as “The Iron Lady”) and the Louvre Museum, it makes sense that 40 million tourists fly to Paris every year.

With the abundance of exotic food, fashion, and art on display, you will never be at a loss for things to explore. While you may feel enough excitement to hop onto the next flight, it’s important to plan ahead, and know for certain if Paris is the right vacation destination for you.

Seasons Matter

If you don’t enjoy overly crowded streets, and you’re also looking for cheaper airfare, then a visit in August would be the right time for you. Imagine having the boulevards and cafes to yourself, but also consider that many of the shops will be closed since most Parisian locals will be out of town.

However, if you do enjoy the vibrancy of crowds and chatting with local residents, traveling to Paris between April and June or between October and early November, is an ideal time to visit. The weather will be mild and pleasurable. Of course, it’s also a good idea to determine how much you’re willing to spend on tickets, as certain months can be more expensive than others. Above all, whether in the Spring or the Winter, Paris will be sure to enchant you.

Study the Language

While most of the Parisians are familiar with tourists and know how to interpret English, it is best to come prepared with a small knowledge of French. It will impress many of the locals, as they are appreciative of Americans who can make the effort to communicate. Pleasantries are an essential part of forming connections with the shop owners and salesmen. Say “bonjour,” as a greeting, and “merci” for thank you after every interaction.

Schedule Enough Time

All of Paris’s museums are free on the first Sunday of the month. Some of them include Centre Pompidou, Cluny Museum, Musée Rodin. There, you can find beautiful sculptures, historical architecture, and stunning gardens. Just be sure to prioritize because you probably won’t be able to see everything in one day. And when you’re not being overwhelmed by all of the amazing art surrounding you, you can take a break sipping coffee, shopping in scenic downtown, or walking on the Canal St. Martin.
